We believe that businesses should make a positive social impact; that’s why every quarter we give a percentage of our sales to a non-profit chosen by our staff. We try to select local non-profits that provide a service that we believe in. Non-profits rely heavily on donations and volunteer energy that draws on the powerful altruistic impulse that is a key aspect of what it means to be human.
As it is our company’s commitment to the community, the 3rd quarter this year we chose to donate to the March of Dimes, a charity committed to the health and research for babies. The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. For more than 75 years, moms and babies have benefited from March of Dimes research, education, vaccines, and breakthroughs.
When speaking to the staff at the local March of Dimes office, it is clear in both their passion and the spirit in the stories of families who have benefited from MOD that their motto ‘A Fighting Chance for Every Baby’ is not an overstatement. Worldwide, 15 million babies are born preterm, and nearly 1 million die due to early birth and its complications. Of the 14 million that survive, an early birth often leaves the baby and families to face serious and lifelong health problems, including breathing issues, jaundice, vision loss, cerebral palsy and intellectual delays. Even more staggering is that the U.S. preterm birth rate ranks among the worst of high-resource countries.
We are all either a parent, aunt, uncle, sibling, or cousin, and the efforts of this charity has touched us all. We are excited to read about the progress that they have achieved since 2000, and are looking forward to seeing the continued progress as they work to help families across the nation in having healthier pregnancies and healthier babies.
